Hopkins County Burn Ban Officially Rescinded

Action Taken by County Judge on Monday

Hopkins County Judge Robert Newsom officially lifted the burn ban that had been in place since Aug. 28 on Monday. The ban had been enacted as a proactive measure due to the dry conditions.

Enactment and Lifting of Ban

The Hopkins County Commissioners Court enacted the burn ban on Aug. 28, prohibiting all outdoor burning in incorporated areas. The ban was enacted at the request of Fire Marshal Andy Endsley, who cited the dry conditions as a concern. Newsom rescinded the ban on Monday, citing recent rainfall and improved conditions. The ban had been in place for 90 days.
